System Requirements
- A Windows XP Professional or Vista desktop, Windows 2000 Server or 2003 Server on which to run scans
- A minimum of 1 GB of memory, a 2.0 GHz processor (or faster),
- and a minimum of 1 GB of disk space is recommended (for a network of 20K devices.
- No firewalls on the scanning device (i.e. XP Windows Firewall)
- The user installing and running Discover must have local Administrator rights
- The account Discover runs under should have Admin rights on all Windows devices attached to the network (*)
- Community Strings (besides “Public”) used by SNMP-enabled devices on the scanned network will improve the success of the scan (*)
- Windows Remote Registry and the Windows Management Interface (WMI) services enabled and started on scanned devices (*)
- .NET 2.0 installed on the device where Discover is installed – Available from Microsoft.
- IP range addresses if multiple IP ranges are to be scanned (vs Windows domain and current subnet)
* While not an absolute requirement, these items significantly improve the amount and depth of information retrieved from scanned devices.
Limitations
CAUTION: Discover cannot detect some devices, or adequately inventory devices where the required authority, access services or passwords, or administrative authority is provided.
